Merry Christmas Environment

Recycle/Reuse

The DigitalElves recycle Christmas waste and hope you do to. If you're not sure what to do, here are some ideas which may help you recycle and reuse your waste.

Don't just throw it away, you'll be amazed what you can do with it!

Giving recycled cards etc. may sound a bit miserly at Christmas, but remember every little thing you reuse or recycle helps to cut down our massive waste problem. It can also help your budget.

When choosing wrapping paper, don't pick foils. Foil wrapping cannot be recycled.

Resuse your old cards and wrapping paper

Make gift tags from old greeting cards

  • Look for shapes such as candles, Santa's, tree decorations etc. and cut them out of the old cards
  • Make a hole in the top and add a piece of ribbon to attach the tag to a present
  • Write on the back of the tag

Reuse wrapping paper.

  • Unwrap your presents carefully
  • Iron the paper to remove crinkles
  • Fold carefully and store for next time

Use your old paper to:

  • Make your own recycled paper
  • Make paper mache ornaments

Food Scraps

If you don't already have a compost or worm bin, why not start one now. If you need information about worms or composting try this link.

Other tips to help the environment

  • Avoid gifts with excessive packaging

  • Instead of shipping with styrofoam peanuts... use cornstarch peanuts. They disolve in water.

  • Buy recycled gift wrap and cards

  • Don't use paper plates or plastic glasses and cutlery

  • If you're having a party or barbeque, place labeled recycling bins or bags around the room or garden

  • Use recycled paper for your invitations

  • Use live plants and flowers for decorations

  • Get a live Christmas tree - you can replant it afterwards

  • Avoid those, use once throw-away decorations

  • Donate old toys, games or unwanted gifts to a shelter, charity or thrift shop - check out the Yellow Pages for contact details

Extra Note

The elves use recycled electrons for this website. Why not try this yourself by sending electronic Christmas cards or email your greetings.
